Not too late to get advance tickets for my shows coming up - including two tickets for £5 for my Birmingham gig (3 Nov). And remember I'm playing with Ebb at the ICA in London (9 Nov) - this is a very special performance and it would be great to see you there. /MaJiKer

good to talk to you the other day. Got a few crazy weeks coming up but we'll talk again about doing something. Take it easy mate.

There hasn't been a RnR Kabaret since the end of August, and I missed that as I was on a cycling trip.
I did bump into Cherr at the Troubadour a couple of months back. They have a new venue that they intend to use in Camden. November is being talked of, but I haven't heard anything.
Cherry was also talking of moving to Berlin - perhaps reliving the experiences described by Christopher Isherwood that got turned into the film Cabaret (RnR Cabaret maybe - possibly not).
Anyway, I did go to Amity Fletcher's Big Secret night at the Ginglik (every Wednesday). It's run a bit like the Regal Room (often the same artists), except 4 songs per artists in one set. Pretty well all acoustic.

Oct 29, 2008 4:24 PM

I've no idea what Chris Brown's middle name is, but he knew you, and is on your friend's list as "1st Movement of the Sun". As for gigs, well not many. I took some photos at an Open mic night at The Maltings (Chris Brown is using one of those on his MySpace default). I've also seen Polly Scattergood, who sings songs like they are nervous breakdowns. I might go down to the Big Secret night at the Ginglik this very night where she is appearing.
Also I'm going to see Thea Gilmore in a few weeks - she's supported by Joan Coffey, a friend of Anna's.

On that subject, Google for "Anna Phoebe" and "Gavine Esler" and you'll find scandal-piece from the Mail on Sunday, complete with a (copyrighted) photo of mine they ripped off her website.

I'm glad you enjoyed the Carribean - indeed a shock to the system to come back to the first October snow in London since 1934.

Oct 4, 2008 7:28 PM

Hi Byron - I guess you are off on your marine adventures shortly. Have a great time. Last night I was at the Maltings and came across a guitarist called Chris Brown who you might well know (he knows you anyway). Really nice stuff - trademark ACM finger percussive playing. Not everything that night was as good as him, but some of it was much, much louder.

Juan Martin

Sep 30, 2008 10:54 AM

Juan Martin's new album Serenade is out now!!

This ground breaking record was recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at their peak, in the setting of London's infamous Abbey road Studio.

The album includes classical and contemporary influences in a flamenco form.

Available here at Amazon and all good record stores, including HMV and Zavvi

Special discount price for the first 4 weeks of release!!

Purchase link below

http://www. amazon. co. uk/s/ref=nb_ss_w_h_/202-5935338-3927043?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=juan+martin+serenade&x=0&y=0

Enjoy :)

This is the long awaited re-release of the 1984 album including the hit single "Love Theme From The Thorn Birds", classics such as the Romanza of Bacarisse and the Adagio from Aranjuez as well as popular pieces such as "Cavatina" and "Romeo And Juliet". There are also five bonus tracks of flamenco guitar. A stunning album of romantic guitar music with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Louis Clark, never before released on CD.

Juan's own note on Serenade:

Being a flamenco guitarist is a frenetic and exciting existence. This album is for me the antidote to that intense and complex activity. It soothes me to play these songs between concerts, airports and when one is alone in a hotel on the road. It helps to reawaken a gentler more peaceful interior that can become flattened in this sometimes soulless world. I hope some of this feel reaches you too.

I also played Amrit's version of Two For The Road earlier in the show. You only got one because you'll have your time on the 15th!

Hopefully getting some good numbers for Wednesday. But as you've probably guessed the number who tell me they are coming, the number I think will actually come and the number that do come can vary wildly.

See you tommorow!
