I think I agree. In general, I think of revolution and change and what have you as more of a neccessity, not really a bragging right. I guess, I honestly think of those kind of committments as selfless actions to begin with but maybe, on a subconcious level people try to appeal their ideas to one another by acting superior. Maybe to some degree they need validation, but maybe they also think that if they're going to turn someone on to their thinking, they've got to come off cooler than Lil Wayne and your mom and dad. And maybe that's true. How many peoples thoughts are dictated by images?
It's really sad because these people that you described sound like they are doing it to be cool, which is fucked when comapred to what theyre saying. I mean look at what the Weather Underground was able to call attention to by bombing the pentagon and police stations. And they had to be underground, completely invisible and unknown, even to their families to be able to actualize such radical thoughts. I bet you there are a lot less people who know of the Weather Underground than Che Guevara. Could it be that in our country and times, such things are too impossible, "too radical"? Personally, I think so. I think it's too much to hope that someone could be convinced to analyze life and the effects of capitalism on the world even if they couldn't dispute that the effect is global, even if they thought of it as the means by which we are all controlled. People don't give a fuck. They just want to live their lives. Success is attained through competition. And the contest is so american. And though I don't agree, I can see why, here, an amateur revolutionary would think that his being cool validates his ideas and is the way to persuade people to be the same.
