hey man,

thanks heaps for the feedback, appreciate it!
yeah She wears my heart was written while still in high school and before the name change, so lyrically i wasnt really aiming very high, i know i gotta work more into it but im aware and working at my lyrical weaknesses.
thanks bout the verse :P i liked it too, but it was always the highlight of the song.the chorus i know i gotta lift it but again i wasnt aiming very high standard wise, i just wrote whatever came out, and considering it was a demo it was more of a flash bang sorta situation with post production, and i really just wrote the song in a night or two and we got it recorded after winning some studio time :P
but excuses aside i know what you mean and thanks i sorta needed to hear it :P i used to try really heard to get that sort of fall out boy choruses and that originally but im starting to workout otherways around it.
and yer bout james...it was his preferance to not really play anything but the outro, but again, working on trying to get him more involved :P he likes to do alot of his own stuff in Blancism or Berlin! stuff so sometimes he takes too far a step back involvement wise.
but neways thanks heaps for the comments, trust me, ill be taking them into consideration for everything in the future man :P
cheers,
kerrod

In regards of the albums you listed, I actually haven't heard any of them (and I haven't heard of the first two bands), apart from Woodface. That is their best album, certainly, and it has some remarkable songs on it (seeing them twice in December and cannot wait). It's not a perfect release, though, as the last few songs cannot even hold a candle to songs like Weather With You, Fall At Your Feet and Four Seasons In One Day. Diorama, conversely, is brilliance from start to finish. There's not a single song on there that I straight out don't like, or even just like in passing- I highly enjoy all eleven songs.

Also, the whole "learn your place" is bitterly ironic given, as I said, the way you carry yourself in terms of opinions.

I wish you all the best with your upcoming exams and any further work you do with TCV. Hear from you soon, I hope.

READ THIS ONE FIRST

Howdy Conor,

I almost knew as I was typing up my analysis of Diorama that you would be unable to keep your mouth shut, even when discussing an album we both like. Your argumentativeness is often pretty funny, either way, so I'm not complaining.

Okay, firstly, what gives you the idea that the emotion on the album is forced? Daniel had been really sick and depressed, also having just come out of a battle with anorexia (see Ana's Song on Neon Ballroom). I feel this album was inspired from the word go as a result of the pain Daniel had been feeling.

The Lever and One Way Mule fit into the album considerably well, in my opinion. The whole album is a progression, those two tracks simply just do it in terms of Silverchair's heavier side. The band have always been a fan of metal, especially growing up, and had always wanted to try out some songs in a decidedly metal tuning. And what better way to experiment with drop B tuning than those two songs?

I have no problem with My Favourite Thing, either; though it's not my favourite track on the album by a long shot.

Good question- why should you believe that? But I think an even better question is why you think I just want everyone to think exactly the way I do? I'm not like you, man; I don't have the whole "This is my opinion and if you disagree you are wrong" mentality. I'm open to see what other people have to say, but only if they can back it up. You may be hugely arrogant with the way you carry yourself in terms of your music taste, but at the very least you usually know what you're talking about.
Diorama's not for everyone, but it's certainly for me.

There's more than one Ira and Helen in the world.

For all I know you could have been talking about Ira Hayes and Helen Keller.
Freak the Mighty

Oct 9, 2008 11:30 AM

I love him too.

But yeah, we were talking about the Beatles...

Also, who are Ira and Helen?
Freak the Mighty

Oct 9, 2008 11:18 AM

Hahaha, where did THAT come from?

Robert Smith is an entirely different barrel of fish.
Freak the Mighty

Oct 9, 2008 11:14 AM

Not necessarily.
Everything pre-65 for the Beatles was just good, fun, twist-and-shout yeah-yeah-yeah kind of stuff. I still think that's brilliant stuff, of course, but it's the mature Beatles that made that defining pop music.
I did grow up with them, and can't imagine my life without the Beatles. I love Paul for having the best ear for pop music- he knows exactly what works, how to arrange it, etc. Even his recent work is good...the same we simply can't say for Ringo.
Freak the Mighty

Oct 9, 2008 10:55 AM

Some of the best pop music doesn't necessarily have anything to say.

And for what it's worth, Paul says nothing beautifully.
Freak the Mighty

Oct 9, 2008 8:38 AM

Fucking hell God Only Knows is good. That shit can make Paul McCartney cry every time without fail. I would die to write a song that could do that!

Valid point on Imagine, I can see where you're coming from. I just felt it the better overall record.

I take it John was your favourite Beatle?
Freak the Mighty

Oct 9, 2008 7:29 AM

Man, I still need to get another Beach Boys record. Pet Sounds has served me so well, but I know there's more out there!

Murray Street's good, but definitely not their best.
Plastic Ono is fantastic, but of course Imagine is the magnum opus.
Freak the Mighty

Oct 9, 2008 7:21 AM

Hahaha, friend or fiend?

Either way, what else have you been listening to lately?

For some bizarre reason, I just got the new AC/DC.
I guess it's just the part of me that loves Bon Scott-era AC/DC, but I want this record to be good.
Freak the Mighty

Oct 9, 2008 7:17 AM

Thanks.

And what kind of music is it? It sounds kind of trippy.
Freak the Mighty

Oct 9, 2008 7:07 AM

I still haven't been able to find working links to any of their records!

Help a brother out with what you think is their/his best? It's just one guy, right?

Also, are you going to either Saul Williams or Final Fantasy in December?

Cute EP cover, though I recommend using a different colour on the words to make them stand out more.

Will listen, anyway.

Also, what is your exam timetable set out to be?

Also also, get a job so you can get a better mic. Maybs ask your friend around for tea and recording, as well.

Hey,
Good vibes in your music.....
The Cure used a tape of the soundtrack Carnage Visors as "support band" back in about 1984! Sounded great through a big PA!
Careful with "morning breaks" - I just wanted to hear Lol come in with his simple beat (aka a forest) and was kinda disappointed when it didn't happen!
Enjoy.
