Here's a video that was captured of me offering my bottleneck slide
interpretation of an old blues song, Goin' T' Brownsville, on open mic
night at Old Strokers in Everett, WA. It starts out with me briefly
introducing my homemade "Nobro" resophonic guitar and explaining some
of the various recycled garage sale junk that I used in it's
construction. Enjoy!

I am drumming up signatures for 14 petitions to stop the gassing of healthy, loving animals in the USA, so please visit my blog and sign them!

This video shows what can be done ~ it is not necessary to kill so many animals, nor kill them in an inhumane manner

Cat House on the Kings Cat Sanctuary ~ amazing video

Animal Liberationist Peter Young Speaking at UT

Hosted by Students Against Cruelty to Animals and United Student Activists.

Peter Young is an animal rights activist who in 1997 released 8,000 mink from six fur farms across the midwest. In 1998, a federal grand jury indicted him on four charges of "Extortion by Interfering with Interstate Commerce", and two charges of "Animal Enterprise Terrorism". He was released from prison in Feb 2007, Before being sentenced, he told the court, addressing fur farmers, that he would "forever mark those nights on your property as the most rewarding experience of my life."

He will be speaking at UT on Oct 15 at 7pm. It's in the Art building on 23rd and San Jacinto.

• Ringling Bros has been citied over 70 times in the last several years for violating the Animal Welfare Act
• Denny's, VISA, Mastercard, Sears, and Liz Claiborne have stopped sponsoring Ringling Bros after being shown video of animal abuse by handlers and trainers
• one 8-month baby elephant died after falling from a pedestal during training
• Ringling does nothing to protect elephant habitat in Asia or Africa, one of the biggest threat to elephants in the wild
• Ringling Bros' elephants spend most of the day chained by one or two feet, unable to move more than a couple of feet
• the single biggest cause of death for elephants in captivity is foot infections and arthritis caused by being chained most of the day
• chaining is so deadly to elephants in captivity that it reduces their lifespan from 50-60 years in the wild to 20-30 years in captivity
*The demonstration is Sunday at 11:30, all other times we will be leafleting.
If you can make it to no other times, Sunday 11:30 would be the time we need the most people

Call for Submissions: Anarchist Yarns

Deadline: August 1st
Length: 1000 words or less
How to Submit: email louisvuittonnight@gmail.com

Description:
Anarchism has a bad rap. There are so many myths and negative assumptions about anarchists floating around that to wade through them all would turn anyone into a creature from the black and red lagoon. Which is why we’re devoting a whole issue to our stories from the silly to the poignant, from the hilahrious to the just fucked. We want everyone and their granny anarchy to write in a short little story that presents the real side of anarchists, whatever that may be. Don’t pull your punches though, no one’s selling anything, we want the truth and nothing but the truth. We are particularly interested in getting some good old punk house stories or stories about all the crazy anarchist co-op shit that goes down but we are equally interested in the personal side of things, the tears behind the sunglasses, so to speak. Honestly, it can even be made up if necessary, fuck the truth, in fact a bed-time story or two wouldn’t hurt anyone. We know you have your stories, and you have a full month, so make it work!

ps.
We’re still looking for anarchist erotic stories, do anarchists even have sex anymore?

Death Penalty Awareness Week
February 25-29, 2008

This is an annual event with participation from CEDP chapters across the US. The Austin CEDP will be organizing a week of activities including:

A People’s Tribunal Against the Death Penalty
Tuesday, February 26 at 12 PM
UT Campus, West Mall Steps
We will present strong evidence against the continued use of the death penalty. Our verdict: the death penalty is dead wrong!

Is the Death Penalty on the Way Out?
A CEDP Presentation
Wednesday, February 27 at 7 PM
At UT, NOA Room 1.116.
From the Supreme Court moratorium due to a case about lethal injection, high profile cases like that of Kenneth Foster, Jr. in Texas, to abolition of the death penalty in New Jersey, support for the death penalty continues to slowly decline. Join the CEDP for a presentation that will describe these recent developments, as well as look at the CEDP's role in the struggle to end the death penalty.

Displays and tables on the West Mall Wed. the 27 in the afternoon, and at Wheatsville Co-Op on Friday early evening.

We Demand a New Trial for Rodney Reed!
March and Rally in Downtown Austin
Saturday February 2,
Starting at 12PM at South Congress and Monroe, Northeast Corner
March to City Hall Plaza
Rally at City Hall at 1PM (Lavaca and Cesar Chavez)

Featuring speeches from the family and supporters of Rodney Reed.

Texas death row prisoner Rodney Reed’s case is in a critical phase, with the possibility of a new trial greater than ever. His case sits before the Court of Criminal Appeals (over which Texas' killer judge Sharon Keller presides) and oral arguments on the case are scheduled for March 19.

We need your help now to draw Austin's attention to this case and send a clear message to the Court: New trial for Rodney Reed!

In recent weeks, there has been a lot of media around the case. Rodney's defense has long posited that another suspect in the initial investigation is responsible. That suspect, Georgetown police officer Jimmy Fennell was recently indicted for rape and other charges.

Here is a good article on recent developments:
http://www.statesman.com/news/content/news/stories/local/01/07/0107fennell.html

Rodney's case is currently in the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, and one goal of the CEDP has been to win a new trial. Your participation in the march is needed to bring us one step closer to winning justice for Rodney Reed!

Please contact CEDP for more information:
