it may be that some net geek in the mid 90s totally pulled it out of his ass to express his sheer exhuberance over the ability to chat up girls and steal music (legally!) without ever leaving his bedroom. net slang and surfer slang go hand in hand. when I see 'uber', I want to put it in with 'gnarly.'
It's Winter in South Georgia. think the neighbors are grilling out, probably contemplatin' a dive in the swimmin' hole, people are out walking their dogs, some could possibly be sunbathing....

I think 'uber' is possibly german. I'd take a shot in the dark and say it translates to 'extremely.' or maybe just 'very.' it's not in my english dictionary, though.
I don't know Johnny Hobo or Pat the Bunny. Never heard of either in my life.

They were grungy as hell... had the Pixies and Melvins t-shirts on, ...but it isn't 1991, so you can't lump them in with Nirvana by any means... Yet they were still leaps and bounds above something like Puddle of Mudd.... They were like proto-post-grunge revival. Yes, 'i hate yr face.' I got the feeling that it was the one song that they would ...totally dig becoming a hit, ...if that was ok with everybody... well, no... maybe one day... maybe one day it will be 1994 again. but for now, no. But, they're obviously making (a non-franchised version of) the music they love and I can't fault them for that.

That's what I do at shows now. Instead of buying t-shirts and merch, I just walk away with a pocket of found artifacts. Got a J Mascis pick, some confetti and a piece of a balloon from a Flaming Lips show, a Mike Watt sticker, and now, Doug Martsch's whammy bar. ...Hard times, you know?
I knew nothing of Disco Doom beforehand and I was impressed with their set. The band before them, Violent Soho didn't really grab me as anything revelatory though... a couple songs were ok. I think one was called "I Hate Your Face."

I missed this comment somehow:
you, a month and a half ago-
yeah dude, caught it on television, somehow i managed to get to a t.v. set at the end of the interview with that white haired, balding, douche bag that was being interviewed, he didnt seem cool, but yeah i caught the last like 10 words of that segment, the commercials, and the BTS performance & credits, that was it,
-- mind u i watched it/listened in through t.v. snow and static, i had to hold a wire into the back of the t.v. set and stand in front of it, in order to catch the channel for free over the air ( i have no basic cable)
That sounds awesome. Very DIY in a way. I miss the days of barely making out the simpsons through all the static and white noise. But hell, I missed it when it aired and actually caught it on Youtube the next day, I think. It should be on there somewhere. just searched for "bts on letterman."
And they were awesome in Athens. It had a much more laidback feel to it than when I saw them last year. They actually asked for requests at one point. I got an awesome video of "Time Trap." Doug holds his guitar up in the light during the feedback intro and there's this dramatic glare... I'll upload it eventually. And I got his whammy bar from him afterwords. The frontman of Helvetia (bts openers on last tour) played bass for the 2nd openers, Disco Doom this time out. Thought that was pretty cool.

It didn't come off as rude or sarcastic at all. No need to worry dear friend. A bonfire, I haven't been to one of those in quite sometime. I remember I rode bikes during the last. Haven't ridden a bicycle since actually. Seems to me that was the last day I've done alot of things actually. Now I've grown depressed, I should sleep this off.

Yeah, "Velvet Waltz," "Out of Site," and "Kicked It" are one solid trio, the best hour and a half of sad freak jam rock ever.
Yes, many a day have I spent yelping the "we're special" lines on the drive home.
JUst found out they were on Letterman last night. Youtubin' it now. They played "Oh Yeah," apparently.

Amy Milan maybe? She's the only Amy I can think of right now other than Winehouse.
Along with Virginia, I'd love to hear "Kicked It In The Sun" and their cover of Daniel Johnston's "Some Things Last a Long Time." I actually yelled for them to play the Johnston song last year, like an ass. (yelling for a band to play a cover of your choice at their show is kind of a strange thing to do in hindsight). I yelled "Daniel Johnston!" And some girl to my left somewhere yelled it back, marco polo-like. ....I dunno, I thought that was cool. I don't get out much, see.
Wow, "Fuck Tha Police" huh?
I have mp3s of Doug's covering "Some Things" on his own and a rough bootleg of an acoustic "Car," which ends with Doug asking for requests and a guy in the audience asking "what's that song that goes like "in the morning.... feeling half-right?" and someone answering "In The Morning." "Oh, ok."
I think "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is my fave of the bootleg covers I've heard thus far.

I had "Three Years Ago Today" stuck in my head the majority of last year, actually. There's something about that simple rhythm that is just maddening. "Virginia Reel Around The Fountain" would be awesome. They didn't do it when I saw 'em last time.
I found a bootleg of a show they did... somewhere, I completely forget where that was a good 40% covers. Odd ones at that. Everything from "Imagine" to Macy Gray's "I Try" to Ozzy Osbourne to friggin' "Freebird"... in its entirety, outro solo and all.
They covered Brian Eno's "Third Uncle," which I hadn't heard beforehand, when I saw them. Did they do any covers when you saw them the other night?

Yeah, they were lumped in with the so-called "slowcore" scene in the early-mid 90s. They play very very downtrodden and slow music. They're a band that ironically sounds kinda boring on paper (pitchfork, zine writeups), but in reality is actually quite amazing. Their last album, Drums & Guns was probably my fave of '06. And their live show is absolutely incredible. The moment the lights dimmed and they started playing, it was like they floated 2 feet above the stage and did not come down the entire set. Definately check 'em out. Old school- "Above & Below" Mid- "Sunflowers" Newer- "Violent Past."

Yeah, I saw 'em March '08 in Jax, FL, Actually. They were friggin' phenomenal. They played an amazing, emotionally wrought version of "Nowhere Nothing Fuck-up." I'm gonna try to hang around for a little while this time and at least say hi or something. I get starstruck and freeze pretty easily. I probably could have had dinner with Low one time, but flubbed it. Cheers.

that sucks the ol' hi hat is broken man! My crash cymbal cracked and started doing the wrap around thing so I just peeled that part off and turned it into a "13 instead of 14 inch. :) I can't believe the legal drinking age in Canada is 19 dude, that is so dope! Its 21 over here. SO, Sam has to buy everyones booze, but that seems to work well enough. I hope you can get back to putting out some new material soon man, and hopefully an album! a Skymovies album? When is that coming?
I gotta give that District 9 a look man, I have faith in it, but Peter Jackson is like Michael Bay to me. He overproduces shit to the max, and makes HUGE epics which becoming boring after a bit. :/ You should really check out The Devil and Daniel Johnston, about the musician. It follows him from birth until now and shows his bouts with Manic Depressive disorder, etc. Plus, he makes some really good lofi tunes. :)

hate to squeeze in on the convo, but Dead Alive AKA Braindead is dope as SHIT! I wish Jackson would have stayed a gorehound with a twisted sense of humour instead of going for hollywood epics that bore the shit out of me!
