So often in our days, stress invades our minds...

It is important to take a bit of time each day to focus on beauty...

Nature has provided us with much of it...

Such as the colorful butterflies that glide about the earth...

Sometimes in life it seems as though we are caught in an unending loop. We try to make positive changes in our lives, but we end up right back where we started.

I am speaking from personal experience here. I can tell you that positive change is possible, and that you can break out of those seemingly unending loops. Just keep trying, and eventually when the timing is right, you will make that change that you desire.

I hope that you have a great weekend, and a great loop-free week.

I was reading something recently and it reminded me of something that happened to me in my childhood. When I was growing up I had a big maple tree in my back yard. That tree was where I had a swing, and it was also my favorite tree to climb in.

Now one of the first times that I climbed in this tree I made the mistake of climbing really high in the tree, hanging from one of the limbs, and then looking down. BIG MISTAKE!! I was frozen with fear. I gripped the tree limb so tight that my knuckles turned white. My best friend saw me hanging there and he told me “let go, and you’ll be all right”. I hung on even tighter. Then finally I grew so tired that the only thing that I could do was let go. Of course, the height was not as much as I thought. I picked myself up off the ground, brushed myself off, and I was fine.

This story illustrates what happens in our lives. We try to do things our way and get into trouble. Then, when we have to face the fear of our situation we hold on with a white-knuckle grip. We must understand that we have to sometimes just “let go”, and we will be OK.

I hope that you have a great weekend and a great week.

One of the greatest secrets in life is how to find a balance. All too often we find ourselves unbalanced, and unhappy.

However those times when we do find balance in our lives, we are at our happiest.

I hope that you have a great balanced week to come.

If you look closely at the waterfall in the enclosed photos, you will notice a distinct difference in how the water looks. The difference is based on the amount of time that the shutter was open. It took me a while to learn this technique of freezing the motion of the water in an instant of time.

Time is something that I have been thinking a lot about in recent days. As many of you know from my update email, I have a lot more time on my hands now that I am working a new schedule. So, of course I am thinking a lot about how to best spend this new found time that I have.

I think that time is like a treasure. We only have a certain amount of it every day. If we waste this precious treasure called time we have no one to blame but ourselves.

I hope that you make the most of every second. Have a great weekend, and a great week to come.

I have been thinking a lot about the concept of change recently. I have been meeting with a group of friends once a week and we have been discussing how to best make some positives changes in our lives.

The Greek philosopher Heraclitus may not have been the first person to ponder the concept of change, but he gave us a nugget of truth in 474 BC that has lived on to this day. He said “The only constant is change”.

Things are always changing with us, in us, and around us. Just in recent history the entire human race has undergone many changes. We have been able to devise machines to help us achieve our goals. What happens to these machines when our goals change? They become relics of a bygone era.

The same thing can happen to us if we get in a rut and are unwilling to change. We ourselves can become relics. Don’t let this happen to you. Remain flexible and keep setting your sites on your goals.

I hope that you have a great week.

I saw this car and I just had to grab a camera and take a few photos. I know that the car was meant to be a joke, but it still reminded me of how we sometimes get too wound up in our lives. We sometimes let our lives get to the point where it seems like we are no longer in control. We get wound up by the stress of work, family, or friends and that stress drives us in a direction that we do not want to go.

When this happens, we have to put ourselves back in the driver’s seat of our lives and stop letting others choose the direction that we will go.

I hope that in the coming week that you will be going in a direction of your choosing.

Different colors can affect our moods.

To help yourself stay more positive and or calm,
try focusing your mind on a color that will help...
such as picturing a beautiful yellow or perhaps purple flower.

Or go to a place that surrounds you with colors of enlightenment~

Find which colors help your mood,
and those which may not.

Then try to focus on the one's that help daily!

There is a question that I have been thinking about a lot this week. What is confidence? As we go through the challenges of our lives our confidence is put to the test. Sometimes we have to do things that are outside our comfort zone. Some people mistake confidence for arrogance. Whatever label you put on it, I think that a little confidence is a good thing to have. This week I am sharing some special photos with you. I am entering the enclosed photos in an art show, and I am confident that I will win at least one award.

I hope that you have a great week full of the confidence that you need to deal with whatever situations you face.

Sometimes in life, we find ourselves “driving in the fog”. We usually don’t know how we got into the fog in the first place. Most of the time, we also can not see a way out. So we drive along aimlessly hoping that it will eventually clear.

Then something happens in our life. We come across a “light” in the middle of the fog, and we follow this light until we can come out of the fog bank. When we come out the light of the sun seems brighter somehow and the day seems clearer then we ever thought possible.

If you are in a fog, I hope that you soon find that light that will lead you out into a beautiful sunny day. I hope that you have a great weekend and awesome week ahead.

As we are now well into a new month, I am wondering how many New Year’s Resolutions have already fallen by the wayside. I know that I have not been able to keep up with some of my resolutions.

We do not need to be hard on ourselves about this, but we too often are.

Sometimes we have to realize that not reaching our goals is just a fact of life.

Sometimes despite our best intentions, we do not do the things that we know to be right.

Sometimes we even chose to do the wrong things even though it is contrary to our goals.

Eventually we do the right things and get back on the right path.

I hope that you are on the way to getting back on the path that is right for you, and I hope that you have a great week.

~Something wonderful~

Something wonderful will come from this. Something of great value is already taking shape.

In every disappointment, there are fertile seeds of accomplishment. In times of pain, there are opportunities arising for magnificent joy.

When you are making your way through the dark and lonely valley, keep going. Keep going and you'll soon reach the place where you begin to climb out and up toward the mountaintop.

Allow your difficulties the opportunity to give you strength. Let the tough times make the good times much more rewarding than they otherwise would have been.

Be truly thankful for each opportunity to more fully appreciate life's goodness. And be confident that the goodness is always there.

Know that something wonderful will come from this. And it will.

**HAVE A GREAT WEEK**
Bill

Jan 19, 2009 3:24 PM

This week, I have been thinking about perfection. Nature is perfect in so many ways. The flowers grow as they were designed to, and they do not have to struggle to be perfect. They are perfectly beautiful because that is how they were designed to be.

Even an overcast day can be perfectly beautiful in its own way. Nature shows us its perfections time and time again.

The only question that I have then is this: Why are we humans such imperfect creatures? We have to struggle through life and most of us are remind far too often that we are far from perfect.

I think that the reason that we are so imperfect is so that we can learn as we strive to get as close to natural perfection as humanly possible. I know that I will never be completely perfect, but I do know that I will learn some valuable lessons as I go through my life, and that is close enough to perfect for me.

I hope that you have a great week.

Someone once told me that we are the best and worst of our parents. To me that is both an interesting and frightening thought. Yes, I have some great traits that were passed on by my parents. However, one question I often ask myself is, am I doomed to repeat their mistakes? I don’t think that I am.

I am a product of my parents yes, but I am also my own person. I have the free will to choose how I am going to use the traits that I have been given to become the best person that I can be.

I think that this is something that we all struggle with from time to time. I hope that you can take heart in knowing that if this is something that you struggle with, you are definitely not alone.

This week I leave you with a family photo taken a very long time ago. Can you guess which one in is me? I am also including a more recent photo of my parents taken shortly before my father passed away in 2002.

I hope that you all have a fantastic weekend.

This is the time where we start reflecting on the past year. Most of the time we reflect on what we think we have been successful at and start making plans about what endeavors we are going to be successful in during the upcoming year. I only see one problem with this practice. What is a true measure of success? Is it something set in stone? I don’t think so. Success is a moving target that is very hard to hit.

The photo that I am posting this week won honorable mention in an art show in Florida last May. Does winning something make me a success? I would have to say that is all in how you look at it. I won something, and something is better than nothing. However I also did not win first place.

I really think that success is a very personal thing that each individual must define for themselves, and that this personal definition of success is ever-changing.

I will leave you with two fortune cookie quotes about success.

“Failure is the mother of all success”

“Success is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from your mistakes”

May you have a very successful 2009!

I know that Thanksgiving is long gone from your mind, but I am still stuck on the subject of gratitude. I guess that the reason that this is so is because it is one area of my life that I have found that needs some improvement. Too many times I accomplish one goal and immediately start working on the next. Or I tend to look for the quick fixes that are not there. I know that I should be more grateful for many things in my life. Rather than continuing to babble I will leave you with two powerful quotes about gratitude from Wallace Wattles. I hope that you have a great week.

"The whole process of mental adjustment and atonement can be summed up in one word, gratitude.
"

"Many people who order their lives rightly in all other areas are kept in poverty by their lack of gratitude.

Our country just recently had an election. While you may not be in the same party or of the same opinion as those who were elected into power, there is something that all of us in the United States share. We are all Americans. We Americans are proud of our country and we are proud of the one symbol that unites our nation: Our flag. Thou the year is coming to a close, a new beginning is on the horizon. I am a very observant person. When I saw this cluster of trees I found the growth pattern very odd. So I decide to do some research and found that these clusters of redwoods are called family circles. If something drastic happens to the center tree like a lightning strike or a fire, these offshoots start to pop up. What happens is that the main tree diverts all of its energy and all of its reserves into making new growth. Then once the newly sprouted tree is able to nourish itself, it grows more roots and starts to feed the center tree and nourish it so that it becomes healthy again. Together they are able to survive through anything.

I think that is how we are too. We have our own circles of friends and family. When one of us is hurting we do what we can to help. That is the way of nature and that is the human way also. Together we are able to survive through our difficulties.

I hope that you have a great week.

The rainy season has started here in CA. In this kind of dreary, weather you can’t really help the negativity that you feel. However, just like all things in life, the rain has a positive side too. We really need the water that this weather brings us. Water is the elixir of life. The animals know that they need it, and we human should recognize our need for it too.

The following is a musing by Bill.

What is a day?
This thing that bursts upon me with its rays of light.

The light of the sun awakens my mind.

It awakens my soul.

It lights my way in this world.

It gives me time to wander.

And time to ponder.

Then it is over in a beautiful glow on the horizon.

This day

And I am left to sleep.

To dream
And to yearn for the dawning of the next.

The ocean can be calm and beautiful, or it can show its power, as depicted in this photo. We too have more power than is sometimes witnessed on the surface. The power of our minds can lead us to accomplish more than we have ever thought possible. If we learn to harness this power and use it to accomplish our goals, there is nothing we can not be, do, or have.

As we move into a new week, I hope that it is a great one.

This world is filled with many different animals, and many different people. In that regard our world is very diverse. In one area of our human existence however we are not as diverse as most people think. In the problems of life, we are not very divers. No matter how alone you feel with a problem, you have to remember that you are not alone. Someone somewhere has faced a similar problem and has gotten through it. Seek them out and get help if you need it, but remember one thing. No matter what you are facing in your life, you are not alone.

I hope that you have a great weekend.

When we are young, we are told not to do things: “Don’t touch the stove!” “Don’t play ball in the house!” …….. As we get older we hear that we need to DO things to be successful.
“DO good work!” “Do the right thing!” “DO this!” “DO that!”

What I propose is this: Sometime the things that we don’t do are just as important as the things that we DO do!

In the following photos you see me at the edge of a cliff. Some of you would say: “Don’t get to close.” “Get away from there”. I didn’t fall and that is the important thing because what I am now able to DO is share the photos that I took with all of you.

This week, I talked with some friends about the concept of focus. Focus is something that is very important to a good photo.

Focus is also very important in life. This world of our offers too many things, people, situations, etc that attempt to distract us from what should be our focus point in our lives. Are the photos of your life in focus? If not, it may be time to get a new lens.

I hope that you have a great weekend.
